I am going by the GM parts books and it shows CPD to be a 1971 454-365 hp with manual trans in both the Chevelle and the Impala.
Weather its right, wrong or whatever, make of it what you want, the GM source is more reliable than others IMO.

Not disagreeing that is what is in the manual. All I know is that sometimes the combinations of stuff you find on some cars don't necessarily match up with the manuals.
I have an original LS-5 built in Van Nuys. An early '71 production model (104327) with T0810CPD on the engine pad. It also came with option code M40 - 3 speed automatic transmission.
The build sheet was found after I started a resitification on the car. Block 26 (ENG) indicates PD. I have never had each of the blocks decoded, but always wondered if this also relates to the engine code found on the stamp or if it was purely coincidental.

nor me. Its just some put more stock in what some web site or book says than what Chevrolet says.
I just looked at 2 1971 Chevelle build sheet and what was in box 26 did not match up with any suffix codes in my parts books. 2 BS is not very reliable evidence though
For instance, one if for a 350-2bbl L65 with a code of TL in box 26 on Kansas City BS
Another with the same engine from Baltimore has TK-? (? portion is unreadable)
TL is the broadcast code.
