What do you guys think? Is it worth it?

Thanks for the reply. I won the auction and just wanted to make sure with some experts (You guys) I wasn’t paying too much for it. I had been considering a few different cars such as 69 Camaro, 72 olds 442 and a 70 or 71 SS Monte Carlo. The build sheet is what really helped me decide.

If you have any suggestions on the vehicle please feel free to express them.

I'd say that it's worth US $17,505.00,,because that's wahat you paid for it.
I sure hope you went and looked at the car ! (or had someone from here look at it for you)

Personally I would have to see that block stamping first hand & up close,,looks a little off to me.

Hope it's what you wanted !

The car looks nice in the pictures. It's a long way from San Diego.

Based on the pics it is certainly not a "rat", right? Go drive it like it was meant to be driven.

Christ, that car's location is about a 20 minute drive away for me; if I could drive.

I really appreciate all of the feed back. To be perfectly honest, I have not seen the car and now I am petty nervous about droping 17k on a car I have not seen. Is there anyone in the area who maybe knows the car?

I spoke with the owner and he told me it had an after market "Vintage" A/C put in. He also put in a Tachometer in the dash. The engine was bored 30 over. Does anyone know how these mods may affect it's value? I know I know Impulse is a ....

You need to go look at it. Worst case you get some bad feedback, big deal.

Zee, from the pictures there is more than 17k in labor and parts in the car. If you can drive it away without the wheels falling off you got yourself a winner.

If the body doesn't have any rust issues and it's a good paint job, I think it's worth it. I'd definitely get in contact with the paint shop and verify they will correct the rear stripes. That way you can have it done before shipping the car. Maybe it would be wise to fly there, inspect the car, and if all is good drive the car to the paint shop. That way you can have the car shipped from there when it is done.

Hello, this will be my first Chevelle, a car I have always loved! To be honest, I am just learning about the Chevelle and am not sure what would be a better buy for the money. I have about 19K to spend. According to the seller, this car has 2 build sheets and is NOM SS 350 with a 4speed. I will be into the car for about $19K once it’s inspected and shipped. I am finally in a position where I can purchase my dream car but I don’t want to regret my purchase. I took your advice and since I cannot go out to New Jersey, I hired a classic car appraiser to inspect the car and appraise it for me.

Originally, I put the $500 deposit on the car but the seller refunded the deposit back to me because Pay Pal was charging him a 2.9% fee. The seller told me I could pay the entire balance in about a week. I asked the seller if he would agree to the appraisal/inspection and initially he agreed enthusiastically. Now he just e-mailed me saying he wants the $500 deposit before he will let the car be inspected. This has me wondering. Am I paying too much for the car? Or does he have something he’s worried about? What questions should I asking about the car that were not in the Ebay description? Should I just call the whole thing off and look for a car local? Is it even feasible to get a NOM SS 454 or 350 for 19K? I don’t have the time to for a project so I need a purchase a car that is not in need of much restoration. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Zee.

The seller wants his deposit so if you change ur mind he has ur cash. He is probably sensing that ur a bit hesitant since the inspection is being performed after the auction is closed.

If I were you I would try to bow out gracefully and, chalk it up as experience. Personally I'm not a fan of hired appraisers, it think there is a false sense of security and without personally knowing their experience and credentials. I would much rather ask for someone on this site to inspect a car locally,,then with that information decide if to go out and see a car.

In the end you have to know weather you have enough experience to spend $19K and be comfortable. Sounds to me that right now you don't,,but you can/will with time.
