On the same note.....Has anyone had any luck rebuilding a Weiand aluminum water pump? If so,where did you find the seal, bearing, etc?
I emailed Weiand and they said no kits were available for rebuild. I really don't want to pitch this pump, but it is leaking out the weep hole and I don't trust it.

I know Stewart Waterpumps will rebuild one of their own. Something to keep in mind next time you purchase one. Stewarts are great pumps.

The rebuilding procedure is in the Chassis Overhaul manual. The following is quoted from that book.

New for 1968 is a ceramic seat, with rubber insert. The seat smooth side will stack against the Phoenelic face of the seal.

Assembly
1. Install pump shaft and bearing assembly into pump body bearing bore, applying pressure to outer race until it is flush with front of pump body.
CAUTION: Apply pressure to outer race only
2. Lightly coat O.D. of new seal with a suitable sealing compound and press into place with 1 1/4" diameter socket, applying pressure to the seal outer flange. The seal should bottom with the outer flange against the pump body.
3. Press on fan hub. Check fan hub location using J-22162 fan hub locating gauge. See chart in this section for specific engine fan hub locating dimension.
4. Wet I.D. of rubber insert in ceramic seat assembly before slipping assembly onto bearing shaft, white side facing bearing seal.
5. Suport pump on front (hub end) of shaft and press on impeller. Press to obtain .010" to .035" clearance between impeller vanes and pump body. On V8 models; it will be necessary to put a bend about 1/2" from end of feeler gauge to enable clearance checking. Impeller must be flush to .018" below pump body back plate gasket surface on V8 models.
6. On V8 models, install pump back plate and gasket with a light coat of gasket sealer and install screws, then tighten all six diagonally.

There are 15 illustrations of the procedure in the book, but I can't post them. Hope that helped you.
