: 383 power guess's?
Onebadbowtie86 May 13th, 09, 11:10 PM Hey there fellow gear heads! I havnt really posted here before, but have been lurking for a while. I figured since im stuck waiting around for my AFR heads to show up I would ask for some guestimates on what kind of power my 383 will make. Heres the specs on the motor:
383/10.2:1/ zero decked/ .039" quench/1 prms internally balanced assembled by me.
Isky hyd. roller cam-custom grind i got through wolfplace--Thanks Mike!
.560"/.558" 230/238 108 lsa
AFR 195 eliminators w/ spring upgrade--Another thanks to Mike!
Edelbrock rpm air gap intake
Pro Systems 780 hp carb
If im missing any other specs you guys might need let me know! This motor is going in front of a '95 t-56 six speed in my 86 monte carlo ss, sorry its not a chevelle!
Looking forward to meeting some of you guys and hearing your responses!
Jason
Dave427 May 14th, 09, 1:04 AM Sounds like its going to make some great torque with the camshaft you picked.
Dave
troposcuba May 14th, 09, 1:14 AM pretty similar to my combo. I have a slightly smaller hyd roller and the old AFR's, but 10.6:1 compression. i am gonna guess right about 500hp and 480lb/ft
webfoot May 14th, 09, 1:15 AM I have a very similar combo to yours, but I've never had mine dynoed or taken to a track. (hope to cure that next month.) Anyway, I can tell you it is a lot of fun.
Sean, how is your carb jetted?
troposcuba May 14th, 09, 1:33 AM I have a 750 hp on mine. didn't touch the jetting, so whatever stock jetting it came with is still in there. nice clean idle, nice response. like i said, a bit smaller cam (comp xr288hr... 236/242@.050 288/294 adv. .520/.540 on a 110 LSA). I did have the heads upgraded to a 7/16" rocker stud though. comp pro magnum rockers, air gap, MSD... etc.
runs very strong! nice and crisp right off idle and just keeps pulling past 6k.
Onebadbowtie86 May 14th, 09, 11:18 AM Cool, thanks so far guys! I was hoping for 475 hp and over 500 tq. I will most likely put it on a chassis dyno, but im just trying to figure out what it should run in the 1/8th and 1/4 mile.
68chevelle533 May 14th, 09, 1:42 PM 475hp should be no problem and should make close to the 500 in torque also.

Did Mike spec the cam for you?
Onebadbowtie86 May 14th, 09, 3:01 PM Yes Mike did. I see your from Calgary, I have family in Strathmore.
Onebadbowtie86 May 14th, 09, 10:07 PM Does any one have any time slips from a 383 like this?
troposcuba May 15th, 09, 10:51 AM nope, can't find a drag strip in Turkey. Mine will break the tires loose pretty good in 3rd gear on the street though. (TH350/373's)
