If you are ever in the Indy area you need to check out Ray Skillman's car collection. About 150 muscle cars in a very cool building. I think he is taking 30 or so cars to Mecum. I bought a 97 Anniversary Camaro from him last year (for the wife).

Any idea of the "Dish Network" Channel?

Agreed Mike, the lineup for this auction looks incredible. It looks like everyone with a half way decent car skipped the "Circus" to attend a real auction. I wish I could be there just to see the cars. I'd love to know what CJ and the "Glasses" troll think of this lineup, compared to the junk they are peddling these days????

Musclecar Review did a feature on this car a few months ago. It showed how they were really put together back then not like todays over restored cars.

IMHO and experience, there will be no definitive answer to your question :)
704EVER May 15th, 09, 10:29 AM I had the opportunity to see this LS6 car a few years ago. I took 90 or so pictures of it. Here's the link to the pictures if anyone should like them for future restoration references.

The auction will also include an unrestored 37K mile '65 Malibu SS with L79. How come everyone always ignores the small block cars? It's on the block Saturday, will be interesting to see how high it goes.

What's an L-79
:D:D:D Sorry Rich, couldn't help myself! Agreed.. some small gems like that often get missed by the masses but I trust it won't get missed by the guys there bidding ;)

They weren't totally ignored last night, just happened to be in a couple of mid 60's Corvettes (Pro Team)...... that did sell.
If the first night is any indication buyers could certainly find some good deals......'70 Judge that sold for mid 30s would have been one of those. Although not the most popular Judge color combination....still. Also noticed '69 L78 Chevelle was bid to mid 40's and didn't sell. Was said to have matching #'s and two buildsheets.
Anyone see or know the '70 LS6 Convertible that went through yesterday? Said to have POP and matching #'s but didn't pull typical prices for this model. Must have been something missing.

I saw the Vert, I think it went for 120k, very nice car. Rare color, Black Cherry?

Corvettes are Corvettes, I was referring to the small block everything else.

Understand your original point ....just thought I'd throw it in knowing it's apples and oranges.
I went out there this morning for awhile. Amazing car show. Buildings and buildings full of cars, mostly muscle. Hemis everywhere, COPO's, LS6's, factory lightweights. The auction area is very small compared to BJ but that's good since you can get closer to the block. Saw a couple nice '69 SS's go for less than 30k. Not near the size or circus of BJ. This one is all about the cars.

You lucky dog Von, I watched a little this afternoon. I was actually surprised how many cars got close in the bidding at the last minute and the Reserve came off. There semed to be quite a of few of them for the short time I watched.
depley May 15th, 09, 9:26 PM The Daytona Coupe was disappointing wasn't it?
Don_Lightfoot May 15th, 09, 9:29 PM The Daytona Coupe was disappointing wasn't it?
Ya, I guess so DeWayne. However, $6.8M is nothing to sneeze at. NO SALE.
oktunes May 15th, 09, 9:44 PM Wasn't there an LS 6 that sold for under $40G yesterday? I thought I saw that on their auction site, but I may have been wrong. think it was a 4 spd at that.

Matt, more often than not, if the car was listed as an LS6 and it sold for under 40K, it wasn't real. Some cars are listed for what they really are not and never have been. Educated buyers know that and it's reflected in the price of the car. There was another LS6 convertible that was a no sale at 120K, that car was probably real. There's a big difference in prices on real cars.
ihav1 May 16th, 09, 5:51 PM Just watched some go thru today - Saturday - and here are some prices.
1. 1965 Chevelle L79 $ 52,500.
2. 1965 Chevelle Z16 $335,000.
3. 1967 Chevelle L78 Conv. $ 95,000.
4. 1969 COPO 427 $310,000.
5. 1970 Chevelle L78 Conv. $180,000.
6. 1970 Chevelle LS6 Conv. $250,000. ( No Sale )
7. 1970 Chevelle LS6 33.miles $300,000 ( No Sale )
For those that might have missed it ---
66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE May 16th, 09, 6:01 PM 67 SS Conv. Was not an L-78

That's good to know.
Those other prices are insane.
64elkynss May 16th, 09, 8:38 PM I was truly amazed that they went to a commercial and didn't show the live auction of the 65 Z-16. I guess it just shows how badly they need the $ from the commercials, even on HD theater. One or two less previews of the next episode of American chopper wouldn't have hurt them. 64elkynss
Some things I liked about this auction (after attending Friday) were: spectator admission was only $10 per day and you could go anywhere except on the block or the seating area just in front of the block, which is reserved for bidders. You got a nice full color event program with all cars in it. All cars had a sticker on the ws that had the lot no., and day and estimated time that car was to be auctioned. All cars had a Mecum form in the ws with a full description of the car and its outstanding qualities. Registering to bid is free, but you have to have bank letter of credit or a $500 credit card authorization. The atmosphere away from the block was relaxed and non carnival-like; not someone attempting to separate you from your money at every turn. Most cars were not roped off and hoods up. You could inspect them well. One heck of a car show, never mind the auction.

Dave, hope you had fun today, load em' up!!!
RoyalPlum67SS May 16th, 09, 11:26 PM I just got back from there and had a blast. This was my first time at an event like this and felt kind of like it could have been very similiar to a BJ auction but on a much smaller scale. None the less.. I did get to see some cool Chevelles and some brought way more than I thought they should have. For example the 67 Convert that went for $95K needed a full restoration. I got to see the 33 mile LS6. I stayed and watched the last Chevelle sell today. It was a white with black stripes LS6 with red interior. IMO one of the nicest restored Chevelles there. I saw it at Vette Fest last spring while it was under restoration. It sold for $118K.

Xplantdad May 17th, 09, 12:50 PM What's even better is that the former owner DROVE the car! The pictures seen here were taken at a local radio station car show...and at Pavillions!:D:thumbsup:

Thats to let the shill bidders know what the reserve is....
If you pay attention to enough auctions, you learn things....
When a car comes up on the block, say like a nice 69 Z28....the owner has put a reserve on the car of 75K.... The auction house has people in place to bid on cars along with the real buyers, to get the bid up to the sellers reserve. The auctioneer may have an opening line like....who'll start the bidding at 80 thousand dollars.... the shills know what the gap is for the day, so the first opening bid is a signal to them what the reserve is. Once the bid starts climbing, they stop bidding and let the real money, if there is some, take over.

It went to the town that I have worked in for 8 years before I transferred dealerships. North Manchester IN. Heard that the new owner drove it home. :o
The new owner already brought it over to our body shop so that we can adjust the side glass fit a little better.
Looks to be a nice car, I'll have the opportunity to check it out a little closer.
Xplantdad May 20th, 09, 12:13 AM You are correct. The new owner did indeed drive it home!
