: Finally registered in AZ

After a few weeks of hassle, I finally got the Chevelle registered in AZ. It took a level 2 inspection to do it but it is done at last. It seems that the lack of two identifiable VIN plates on the car posed an issue with the local MVD inspectors so they sent me to a DPS enforcement station. They ended up pulling the dash VIN plate and assigning me a new AZ VIN plate/number on the door sill area where the door/quarter meet. I am glad it is all done but what a pain in the ass. I don't recall the Chevelle ever having two identifiable VIN's as long as I have had it. Would you expect a 1972 Chevelle to have two VIN plates/tags located on the car? I only know of the one dash location myself.

The frame and engine had identifiable stamped numbers. If one or the other was original to the car and not rusted out, they should have been able to use one of those as the second VIN. Too bad you lost the original VIN plate.

Must have been the person that did your inspection. When I brought my '69 in with a TX title, they looked at the dash VIN tag, checked it off and I was done. (Yuma DOT station) They never asked or checked for a "second" ID. The engine did match though. smile.gif

They did comment on the frame having surface rust covering where they thought that the VIN might be. The engine is a rebuilt Monte Carlo engine so that VIN would not have worked. I do agree with you d1, it should have been an easy look and sign, especially since I did have the previous plates and registration from California where it was registered to the same owner for over 19 years (I showed the MVD inspector the history). In any case, I am running legally registered and happy to be doing so.
