Hi....gotta question...I recently bought a 1967 chevelle that has a factory installed optional 8-track player...I know for sure it originally came with this installed option because I talked to the original owner last week. It also has the speakers built into the kick panels. Unfortunatly, the player no longer works. Does anybody have any suggestions of where I may take or send this 8-track player to be repaired/reconditioned??? Also, how rare is this option and should my chevelle have two or three REAR speakers?
Thanks!
Tad

U54- tape player was available on all chevelles except el camino. 5,194 were equipped with U54. It would have 2 rear speakers. Elliott`s Car Radio Repair, 313 Linfield Rd., Parkerford, PA 19457 May help Phone # 610-495-6360 or elliottradio@aol.com

I had a factory 8 track in my 69. I had it repaired at a place called Royal Radio and Appliance in Royal Oak, Michigan. They cleaned, adjusted and installed a new belt. It worked fine. Many others in this area have had their 8 track players repaired there. I believe they are still there. Their number is 248-548-8711. The website is RoyalRadio.biz
Its some distance from Ohio, but there's always UPS. Good Luck

The most common problem is that the drive belts dry out and break. so when you remove it from the car, take the bottom off and check them before you send it out. New belts are on Ebay and several websites. Don S

If it is a belt and you get it working and the tape 'double tracks' and sounds bad - I remember that you just adjust the screw on the tape head up or down to center it on the tape........
