I'm not planning a #s matching resto, but I kind of want to know more about what I have.

Bench interior med.blue river cloth/metallic medium blue coated fabric

I don't know how many people have owned this car,I know a little history and how I received. The interior had been changed some-generic buckets, added console and horseshoe shifter, interior dyed black, incorrect rear bench color(tan/beige)under dye(there is paper work in the springs of the seat-dunno how to get it out without destroying it,but it's from a different car)has tilt steering that was column shift(original?),original windshield has fm antennae, original dash and pad are black also(sweep original),AC,power disc, has rocker trim and no wheel well trim(or evidence of)said Malibu on the fenders,400 on the front of one, nothing on the other but sanding revealed that it apparently had 307 on it,both fenders were the same blue(astro),Chevelle on the decklid and grill w/bowtie center(black grill),and stupid moon roof.edit:also original 8.2 2.56:1 open and no supports or rear sway bar,has front.
I brought home the car with no engine or tranny, they had pulled the 350/th350 out(both were bad),they got the car with the sbc/th350 in it(not original eq. though). The previous owner had the car from around '77.Then it had 396,unknown tranny, and stupid moon roof. The 396 had headers on it that they notched the frame to fit, which my BBC headers fit exactly.Don't know when or why the interior, fender or engine changes were made.
What I want to know is how I can find out if it was an original big block car like I've been told.I've been told that the proportioning valve for the brakes is in the right spot for a big block, and the front springs were big block springs from the way the car sat with the small block,no identifying marks or stickers are on the springs(have moroso springs on the front now.)While reading the how to spot a real SS I saw that the Malibu w/402 was scarce and was kind of wondering if maybe I had stumbled onto one.If so would it be worth the extra effort to restore "correctly"?As of now it's a street/strip daily driver and is a very fun car, although ugly and in bad need of cosmetic work.

Only thing I can add is it was built in Arlington, Texas.

224650 is the sequential production number starting with 100001 for the 1st 70 Chevelle from Arlington - yours is the 124650th down the line. On the Fisher Body plate, 19575 is the sequential number assigned to 2-dr sport coupes (Fisher Body Unit Number) and the 593 is simply a tracking number that can be found on the build sheet.

If the front fenders are original, check for properly drilled holes for the SS396 emblems and for any other holes that may have been filled for the Malibu script in the same area or engine size emblems above the side markers.

No SS emblems or holes,it's all Malibu. It seems a fender was changed and the engine size trim wasn't,the fenders look identicle otherwise.I'm hoping that the one with the 400 trim piece is the original. Can't find anything on the fenders or car to clue me in.

Arlington Tx. Plant started production with 200001,not 100001.Yours is the 24650th unit produced.

Look at the steering column shaft.Big blocks used a releasing bolt & coupler before the steering box,Non Big blocks had it machined pressed in.

It sounds like it could be a 1970 LS3 400/330HP Non SS Malibu,of which 1275 were coded CKR for Manual trans.,8368 coded CKN for Auto. trans. These numbers include 1970 Station Wagon,& El Camino too.
305 of those were for Service replacement useage.

Thanks alot mr70!
It has the releasing bolt and coupler, like you said, though I have an AGR box on it now.

It has to be an auto car,no hole in the trans tunnel,I'd still like to know how to find the codes for engine and transmission as well as trim.
