I'm new at this decoding stuff, and am wondering why my trim tab reads differnt from all I've read?

ST 70-13680 BL 06651
TR 770 5555
06C 945189 190211

I read production #s Start 10001 mine starts with 0. Also will we ever know what the other #'s are for. And last, there are no code letters, #s on my rear axle. This is just for my own education. Thanks

Production number on body is different than VIN. The VIN is the one that starts at 100001. Body number vary by body style and type.

BL 06651 is the body number that Chevrolet assigned to this car when the order was received. The VIN was assigned when the body was received from Fisher Body into the body bank at the final assembly plant.

Btw - The VIN is on top of dash, seen thru windshield on driver side.

No, yours isn't any different. The production serial number isn't listed on the Fisher Body plate, but rather the VIN plate on the dash. (Actually each plant started with 100001 in 1970.) The 06651 is a Fisher Body number that was assigned to this Custom El Camino. You'd have to compare the body number to other Van Nuys-built Custom El Caminos. I have one example of a Van Nuys-built 70 Custom Elky in December of 1969 with a body number of 06299. So in the next 6.5 months, only about 400 350 more were built at Van Nuys.

Rest of your tag:
TR 770 ~ Ant. Med. Saddle Coated Fabric bench seat
55 55 ~ Champagne Gold (lower/upper)
06C ~ June, 3rd week for the body.
The other numbers are data processing tracking numbers and have no real significance but they do appear on the build sheet (block 24), then only to verify the build sheet is for that particular car.
FWIW, in 1970 only Van Nuys and Atlanta used 2 sets of 6 numbers like this, other plants had different info on the body plate.

Thanks Guys, looks like a Rookie mistake, won't happen again till next time. As soon as it stops raining I'm going under and find that axle code, it's got to be there right? R
