1/36/17/7/B/213750

1 - Cheverolet
36 - Malibu, Custom El Camino, or Wagon
17 - 2 Door Sport Coupe
7 - 1967
B - Baltimore, Maryland

Not sure about last set, its the car # but you have a 2 starting it?

The last six letters are for the unit number, all these start with the number 1

Not unusual at all. True that the serial number for each plant began with 100001, but Baltimore built over 116,400 Chevelles in 1967. Anything from about the 3rd week in May to the end of June would have a serial number of 200000+. Check the Fisher Body plate and I'd bet it's at least 06B or later by the serial number.

The 36 portion of the VIN (unlike the body tag) does indicate it's a V8 but there's one character missing from the engine ID stamping. T is for Tonawanda, 07II should be July 11, but there should be a two-letter suffix code...wouldn't happen to be EP by any chance? EP is cool stuff, the L79. :D

Unless the two-letter suffix code is IP then there's a number missing from the date and "IP" isn't a Chevelle engine. Don't have codes for full size cars but it "IP" may be for one (?)

213750 is the consecutive production serial number. It started at 100001 and went up. So 213750 means this was the 113750 Chevelle model assembled at Batimore to date....

Oh I see now.

100001 would have been the 1st one built, but the 100000th one would have 200000.

1969 and 1972 were the only two years of classic Chevelles (64-72) that were different; 1969 serial #s started with 300001 and 1972 started with 500001 for the first Chevelle from each plant.
