I picked up a 72 and would like some help decoding the tag and Rear please. I am not going to restore the car to original or anything, just curious about the History. I already Decoded the VIN.

What is the 8 above BDY?
What is 0241?

It is a 12 bolt axle with a Posi. Here are the numbers I found on it, and what I know about it (thanks guys):

Left Side Front- 3917124
Right Side Front- GM 57
Right Front (stamped on tube)- KX 0618B
Left Side Rear- CON1
Right Side Rear- 12345

3917124- 68/69 Chevelle casting number.
KX- 3.07 Posi
06- June
18- 18th Day
B- Buffalo, NY Axle plant

Any help would be grand. I have searched the net and not found this info.

The "8" isn't known...yet...but other Baltimore tags show different numbers. The "34" is part of the GM model/series designation; 34 is designation for the base Chevelle 2-dr sport coupe in 72. Trim code 701 is for Black Pinta CTO/Coated Fabric and A52 designates bench seat. The 0241 is one of many tracking codes and it's exact meaning isn't known...yet...but the number is found in block 24 of the build sheet.

Afraid I can't help with the axle casting #s, but KX would probably be the code for the ratio (3.07 Posi in Chevelles), 0618 probably the build date (June 18) and B for Buffalo.

KX 0618B is not the original axle for this car, it from a 68 or 69...
