JAMESLS6VERT May 7th, 09, 11:36 AM Whats up fellows, finally figured out how to upload some photos. This restoration started on 06/01/2007 and it was a complete basket case. Everything was rusted and yes its an orginal 1970 chevelle SS LS6 convertible with documents. This is what my restoration is up to and let me know what you guys think. Im going the orginal route. Yes its the orginally engine and Transmission. CRR code and Rear is CRV code. :beers:

cheveslakr May 7th, 09, 8:46 PM James, is this the Holy Grail of rare chevelles or what? I understand that only 6 were made. Very worthy of everything you invest.
savage71chevelless May 7th, 09, 8:48 PM James, that will be sweet. How long did you have that car? I imagine they only made a handful of them. What is the original color of the car?
704EVER May 7th, 09, 8:55 PM More pictures, more pictures!!!:beers:

66 L78 ragtop May 7th, 09, 9:35 PM Is the car an auto or 4 speed?
mr 4 speed May 7th, 09, 10:08 PM Is the car an auto or 4 speed?
He stated that its a CRR suffix (TH400 equipped)
SixActual May 8th, 09, 12:41 AM A Rare Bird indeed! :beers:
JAMESLS6VERT May 8th, 09, 3:29 AM Thanks guy its a orginal coded lS6 454 code CRR = 454 with a turbo 400 trasmission automatic. The car sat in the out door elements for over ten years beFore i managed to get it. I have had it for 4 years trying to figure out what to do with it. After alot of help from members here and alot of research I decided to restore it back to orginal and not go the donor route. Most of the body parts came from Ground Up, becasue the body was so rusted and beyond repair. Ground up was a great experience and for the last two years ,I have been restoring it. As far as actually how many were produced, the figure is alot higher then people think. Acorrding to the figures there was something like 1500 lS6 convertible made. Now how many are restored and real, who knows, Im simply not interrested in that part. According to my build sheet, and cowl tag and yes the protecto plate too, Its a Baltimore built car, (code 25/25 )Astro Blue with white stirpes. It had blue interior ( some say bright blue interior others say it was medium blue interior. It also has a convertible power blacktop. So yes its a rare car I guess, making certain parts impossible to get. My engine was completely redone and is all numbers matching right down to the orginal carb heat shield. Thanks for all the comments and lots of photos to follow as I figure im about 70% done. with my project. But like every one knows, theres also something else that comes up. Any comments greatly appreciated.. James:beers:
sparky1698 May 8th, 09, 10:16 AM Looking real good  Keep the pictures coming
66 L78 ragtop May 8th, 09, 4:27 PM He stated that its a CRR suffix (TH400 equipped)
OK, now its obvious that I'm not much of a 70 chevelle guy:D
mr 4 speed May 8th, 09, 4:40 PM James,does your car have a " B D" on cowl tag?
704EVER May 8th, 09, 4:45 PM Hey James, nice pictures!! Where was your car sold new? I always thought only a few states required the carb shield, I think it was Ca. and 1 or 2 others that it was mandatory in. Here's where we learn new things!!:beers:
JAMESLS6VERT May 8th, 09, 5:37 PM Hey Mike, Car was orginally bought in PA and has spent the rest of its time in NY. The orginal owner still lives in the Bronx and I was able to obtain some photos from the owner. The car has about (4) owners and except for the last owner, the engine was untouched, besides some maintance. The orginal owner stated its was there along with the exhaust manifolds that had smog pumps on it. :D
JAMESLS6VERT May 8th, 09, 5:41 PM Ill check if it has a B D is on the Cowl tag, One mystery I cant figure out is in the upper left hand corner there is the #2 on the cowl tag. I was able to speak to a Baltimore Assemble line man who told me it simple means it went to gate #2.
ls6ragtop May 8th, 09, 9:26 PM Mike,
The carb heat shield was an NA9 component. Available on any car with NA9 emissions package. Most NA9 cars were destined for CA. use so your assumption was not too far off.
If James car had the NA9 emissions pkg. it would be very unusual for a car destined for PA. use.
I have a buddy with an LS6 car in upstate NY that has been in the Syracuse area it's whole life that was optioned with NA9 so other states did receive cars with that option, but most likely not many.
As James alludes, more LS6 verts were probably built than most would like to admit, but I doubt the # is anywhere near 1500. My best guess would be 100-200. If the # really was 6, which it isn't, I would have owned half of them.
Chris
JAMESLS6VERT May 9th, 09, 6:29 AM To Mr4speed Yes it has the B D on the cowl tag.
Thanks Mike, if anyone has time to check out chevelle stuff .com, it gives a base number on how many SS were made and the possible precentage of LS6 and LS6 Convertibles. I have asked alot of people about the Carb shield and the Exhaust manifolds with the smog. They all say the same thing, Thats what most LS6 came with regardless of where they were made Most people racing them, the first thing that came off, were the heat shields and the exhaust manifolds. I keep learning something everyday about this project. Such as i pulled the gas tank down to find a build sheet and the gas tank is still factory stamped. And yes those who know the Baltimore build shield, it has the two holes punched out on the right side of the build sheet.
ls6ragtop May 9th, 09, 6:52 AM Hi James,
No dispute about all LS6 cars having smog pumps , but the carburetor heat shield was only part of a California mandated NA-9 fuel vapor emissions package that included a special fuel tank and gas cap, extra vacuum lines and vapor seperator near the fuel tank, charcoal canister , special vapor recovery lines tying in the pcv, special vented front fuel bowl on the holley carburetor and of course the carb heat shield.
If your car originally came from the factory with the heat shield it will say NA9 on your build sheet and should have all of the rest of these unique components .
Never found a build sheet from a Baltimore car on the top of a fuel tank, Van Nuys plant cars yes, Baltimore no.
Baltimore sheets are most commonly found in the front or rear seats. Your car sounds like it will be striking color combo when you finish it.
Good luck, Chris
JAMESLS6VERT May 9th, 09, 7:11 AM kEWL Chris, Guess there always a first one, The orginal owner did find it in the back seat almost a decade ago which I still have locked in a safe...lol When I pulled the body off the frame in 2007, I was surprised to find a caked up paper on the gas tank, Same build sheet as the one taken out of the back seat a decaded earlier. I have photos of the recovery too. And I dont know why theres a carb shield on it, its just there. Like I said, the orginal owner said it was on there. Many people would like to prove cars are not ss or LS6, but I wasnt there when this one was built. Only have proof of what it is. But does one really care, its in my driveway. =):D:D:D

Looks like you are well into it. I love those jack stands you have, where can a guy get some like them. I have been working on my chevelle for about 8 months now and didn't have the nerve to pull the body off the frame. Good luck, and keep updating us.
