Wondering about the manufacturing date and application for a Muncie M20 that I bought.
The main case numbers are 3885010, the tail shaft section is 3857584, and the side cover is 3884685. The numbers look like standard 1966 and 1967 Muncie numbers. Since it has two grooves around the input shaft, I assume it is an M20.
The date code is P01008. That one puzzles me. It doesn't seem to include the year at the end of the code, unlike another transmission I have with an early 1967 date code. How would you decode that date?
Another question -- most Muncie's have the vehicle VIN stamped on the top surface of the main case. This one has no VIN stamped there, and there is no sign of it being ground off. Would this be a warranty replacement or ??
