it looks as if i am FINALLY going to get my car painted and so i am pulling everything apart. after my dismantling frenzy (in which i thought i had done so well labeling everything in little ziploc bags) i realize i have torn ALL my original weatherstripping off without making a detailed list of what i need to replace. i did a search on here and didnt seem to find a list sooooo i am curious if anyone can give me a detailed list of all the weatherstripping that i am going to need to be purchasing. i know now from my searching on this subject that i should have bought the metro from danno but i bought some from a vendor at super chevy a few weeks ago and am now wondering if i bought junk or not.

thanks for any and all help,
donald

Hi Donald-
What is the car you're working on? So you're replacing ALL of your weatherstripping, right? Shouldn't be hard to determine what all pieces you need. Let us know what you're working with and maybe someone can give you a list of all the needed rubber.

Who was the vender that you bought your weatherstripping from at the Chevy show? I believe there aren't many manufacturers for the rubber, so perhaps what you bought is the same or similar quality to what other well known venders sell.

my car is a 70 chevelle hardtop. the vendor was bluegrass classics and all the bags had gm restoration parts stickers on them with trim parts printed down the sides.

Hi Donald-
I also have a '70 Chevelle hardtop. Your basic list of needed weatherstrip rubber includes: Door seals (L&R pair), quarter window vertical seals (pair), trunk seal, cowl seal, roof rail seals (pair), door jamb U-seals (pair).

Some rubber kits come with the rubber bumpers- for trunks, hoods, and doors, gas tank door, and glovebox. And since you're about to piant you may want to think about the "paint reseal kit"; Which includes all the little rubber gaskets that go around your park lights, door handles, locks, etc.

Count up what you got it your kit, and let us know what all you have.

ive got a pair of door seals, a pair of roofrail seals, trunk seal and cowl seals. so that means i need the quarter window vertical seals, door jamb U-seals and window felts? i took some pieces off of the inside rear of the quarter windows. what are they called? where is the best place to get the rest of this stuff? i also need some screws for my headlamp retaining rings and the screws that secure the bottom of the headlamp extensions. is the bluegrass classics place that i got the stuff i have from any good?

Hey Donald- sorry I haven't responded sooner. I don't get notifications when there's a post to a thread I've posted on.

Anyways- Yes, I believe you are correct; You will need the quarter window vertical seals and the door jamb U-seals, and window felts.
You could try to call the place you got the other stuff from, and see if they can get you the seals you're missing. Or any other reputable restoration supplier should be able to help you out. Personally, I favor Johnsclassiccars.com for my resto parts. Part of the reason is that they're only about 45 minutes away, so I can avoid shipping fees and SEE the parts in person before purchase. They have a price match policy, and they seem like knowledgeable folks when I've seen them at swap meets, etc.

As far as the headlight screws- you can hit up the local hardware store and look for a match, or order them online from one of the resto suppliers. Shouldn't be much for a few screws.

Good luck! Let us know if you need anything else.
