Hello: i just purchased a 1972 Chevelle SS 454. i decoded the vin through GM Canada and have seen the vin on the engine behind the alternator on the passenger side on a tag on the head.

Question, my car has a chrome trim below the door and some tell me that no SS has the chrome trim and it must have been added. but i have seen numerous SS Matching numbers with the below the door chrome strip. can anyone tell me anything more about this chrome strip. i have a title that is legit, vin # verification and engine vin i.d. could it be an option ordered. maybe the canadian mfg'd cars had this. any help is appreciated.

The trim below the door is a Malibu-only piece. It was not an option to order this additional piece of trim on an SS. However, it could always be ordered over the counter from the dealer and added on, which I believe was probably done many times.

i just got off the phone with George Zapora with GM Canada and he said actually there were SS 454 with this chrome option. I appreciate your reply but it is interesting for him to say that there were SS 454's with the bottom door chrome strip!
