i have two 69 m-22 muncies.neither one seems to be molested.
#1 is 19z315xxx p9R18c
#2 is 19k353xxx p9so9c
do these seem to be correct?does everything jive?
is the first m-22 a late oct. tranny or early build?
iam a 69 camaro guy.so i have no clue with chevelle vin to month/time build date correlation ,and how production ran at each of the different plants etc.

Here's what I show from one source:

P9R18C:
P - Muncie.
9 - 1969.
R - October.
18 - 18th.
C - M22.

P9S09C:
P - Muncie.
9 - 1969.
S - November.
09 - 9th.
C - M22.

Both appear to be from late in the 1969 calendar year. Your concerns may be well founded. By the dates you would assume these were for 1970 cars???? Maybe I'm missing something that somebody else can pick up?????

Hope this helps.

The "9" in the transmission date is the car model year, not calender year. That would make these both M22's made in late 1968 for installation in a 1969 model car.

Both VIN's listed in the first post confirm as they are from earlier production cars from Kansas City and Freemont.

I found VIN totals by the month for 1969 in a November 1994 issue of The Chevelle Report. There is not much difference in the build dates for the two transmission sequential VINs considering Kansas had a much higher build rate than Fremont. Sequential numbering at each plant started with 300001.

z315xxx = middle of November, 1968

k353xxx = end of November, 1968

The last November car at Fremont was 319029; and Kansas was 358979.

The last 1969 Chevelles built at any of the assembly plants was either July or August, depending on which assembly plant.

So both of the transmissions were assembled and installed in Chevelles in 1968 (model year 1969). The numbers make sense.

All 1970 Chevelle production started in September of 1969 except for Arlington which had no jobs built in September, October, or November.

Albert, your Baltimore car, 19B401XXX, was built in July (this should agree with your build code on the trim tag), last car built that month was 413729, and the last Baltimore car built in August was 414385.
