Sorry for not having enough patience trying to find all explanations on coding numbers on the reference pages listed. I need some help in this one (looking for my next fun project). This SS has the clutch pedal but a TH400 installed behind the replacemnt 396. Original 396 imploded. Is the G2 an Ash Gold paint with the Vinyl Top?

I am also looking for how many 4 speeds were built in 68 and what was the gearbox of choice?
Thanks!

Yes, G2 is Ash Gold with black vinyl top.
Can't say how many 4-speeds were ordered on 68 models but there were three available:
M20 ~ 2.52/1.88/1.46/1.00 - 3.11
M21/M22 ~ 2.20/1.64/1.28/1.00 - 2.27
The M20 was standard I believe and 'choice'?, well...depends on your point of view I suppose. I like the wide ratio M20 for a fairly heavy car with a high (numerically low number) rear end gear - say 3.31 or higher to help get the car moving. If you have a lower gear ratio, the M21 close ratio might be a better choice as you don't need as much multiplication to get going. I'd reserve the M22 for racing or heavy duty use unless you just like the 'whine' it makes.
