I am curious what date code should be on a delco distributor, for a car built the 2nd week in June. The engine assembly date was 3/29 and correct to the car via protectoplate and engine stamp. Also the transmission code is PO517. How is this date broken down?

The transmission date is for May 17th. The "P" is for Muncie I believe.

On my car the distributor date is 6D25 and the engine assembly date is May 13th. About 2-3 weeks prior to the assembly. My car assembly date is the 4th week of May.

Thanks. I had always been led to believe two week inventories were the norm and of course parts had to be dated before car assembly but I seem to have a engine built much before the assembly. I do not doubt the 3 month lag before installation of the engine however,as verified with the original engine assem. date on the protecto plate. If I recall correctly, 1965-1966 was a bit turbulent with GM strikes. This 66 SS could very well have been the victim of labor disputes.

What is the date code on your 138 distributor? Ed, I'm guessing that your distributor is a 100 or an 074 for a 375hp engine. I have never seen a 138 distributor with a date code that late.
