I have this bad feeling. I bought a 69 Chevelle SS numbers matching (maybe). The question I have is that the cast date is 1 19 8 and the block number is 3955272. Is this the right number for a 69 Chevelle and is the cast date good for this car. The number on the front pad is T0213JK the vin number is stamped down by the oil filter vertical 19k406XXX the first three letters are stamped very light and the stamp gets deeper as you get to the last digit. The last seven digits match the vin plate on the dash. The car was assembled on 02D (Feb 4th week). It does have a 400 trans (numbers match vin.). The vin number is 13637K406XXX. I looked at the numbers before I bought the car but forgot to check the cast date. The other components heads, intake, carb, dist, alt, starter, etc. check out fine. The car has never had a frame off and still has alot of the original parts. I,m just worried about that cast date and block number. I sure hope I'm gettin nervous over nothing.

The block # is correct for the 69. You might want to recheck the casting date, sometimes the 3's, 6's 8's, 9's, tend to look alike. A casting date a year before the car was assembled would be a little early. One of my books show that this block was used in some 68 trucks.

3955272 is for a 1969 396/402 265, 325, 350, 375, 2&4 bolt

Are you sure the cast date is not I 19 8? That would be Sept 19 1968. That still seems early for a Feb 69 built car but it could have happened.

It could possibly be I 19 8. It's hard to tell if it's a one or letter I. Could it be a L 19 8 the casting is pretty hard to read it's casted rough. Thanks for the input.

I just went out and checked it again. The first letter or number is just a straight line no little hook on the top like a number one and their are no crosses on the top like the letter I. Could this be a lower case L (l)? That seems to make the date closer to the rest of the dates on the car.

They used letters as stated above. My 70 SS block has a "J" (Oct) date and the car was built 01C (Jan. 3rd week). It's probaly an "I" and you are ok.
