Is there any way of finding out whether a car was a Yenko/COPO, etc? I have a 1969 Malibu that has a 12 bolt posi, and non power disc brakes, but it's all gutted, and have no motor/tranny.
VIN 136379G300103.
Also, isn't this # 103 built in 1969?
THANKS

What makes you think its a COPO or Yenko?
12 bolt came on all SS cars and many others with HD rear axle.

THANKS From Framingham, Yes. Actually built in 1968 but I know what you mean.
I think all 69 Chevelle COPO cars were built in Baltimore.

Non-power disc brakes   That's a new one on me. I've heard of them on Olds Cutlasses, but not on Chevrolets.

That VIN is way too early for a COPO. And as you can see from the link provided, no Yenko came from Framingham plant. This car likely was built during the first week or maybe even the first or second day of new model production and they were probably not ramped up to 100% yet.
COPO were batch built, meaning they held orders till they could produce more the one car at a time and all the special parts were available. As you can see from the VIN patterns, they were all built around the same time frame, late in the model year. Orders for COPO often took 6 months or more to be built. If they did not get enough orders to make it profitable, they could cancel the orders.
You could get the 12 bolt in most cars if you ordered they HD Axle or performance axle. These could have come with 350 engines.

Also don't forget. All Malibus are Chevelles. Just that all Chevelles are not Malibus. smile.gif
Except for the later 70s Malibus. Not sure when the Chevelle name was changed to just Malibu.
