First off, when I ordered my package tray for my '70 and rec'd it, it's basically a piece of colored cardboard, is this right??? GM just used cardboard under the rear window?

Second off, like an idiot I forgot to -also- buy the jute pad insulation stuff that goes UNDER the package tray. Now here's my question, do all suppliers sell jute pad insulation that has the speaker knock-outs pre-punched? It seemed like only Year One made mention of this. In other words, if your car has rear speakers, you don't want the sound to be muffled by the jute pad, so the area that corresponds with the speakers on each side would "pop" out of the jute allowing the sound to come thru.

Yes the factory package tray really was compressed cardboard. Mine had expanded and rippled from moisture damage from the back window.

Since the jute padding is hidden below the package tray, I found a nearby upholstery shop and bought about four yards of jute padding for $20, then cut to fit the tray and cut out the 6x9 speaker holes. It was cheaper than the mail order precut pieces.
