Hi,

I have successfully decoded everything on my cowl tag except for what I understand are the optional accesories. The code is 2BG. I have no idea what the two means. I found something that said the B means 3 speed (Did SS come with a 3 speed?). And the G means center console. Can someone please set me straight and give me a link to reliable info? Thanks.

I had the same problem. I was shown the 2 is for option group 2. Mine reads 2QR

So does that decode as Muncie 4-speed(Q), rear seat speaker(R)??

yes it does. I am trying to find the source I used to decode all this but can't find it again.

Well if that works out, I'm using the chart at chevellestuff.com to decode. Now I'm confused because that chart says I should have a 3-speed. Did they make SuperSports with 3-speeds??

From what I was told a 3 speed was a default transmission if another was not marked on the order sheet. Do not take this as a fact but as rumor. The guy who told me was VERY knowledgable on Chevelles. He did tell me of an SS 396 with the 3 speed manual. I'd say it is an unusual thing as most were the 4 speed or powerglide cars until mid 67 when the TH-400 came in them

The Three speed and bench seats were standard equipment. Four speed, console, buckets were all options.

Thanks for the info guys. I have the 763-B code for Black Vinyl Bucket Seats. My Car is not a numbers matching car, and I currently have a 4-speed. Just trying to figure out the history. I guess I'm going to have to investigate the trans a little.

I just thought of something... since I'm at work I can't check right now, but why would they stamp a B in the option code if 3-speed was standard. Maybe I read the letter wrong. I'll have to check later. Thanks again guys.

There is a wealth of information on this web site, you need to look for it http://www.chevelles.com/years/67/interior.htm
here is a link that might help you. you can even find your 763-B code here.

It is a fact, the HD full synchro 3-speed was the standard transmission with the SS as were bench seats. As noted, everything else (such as console, buckets, 4-spd, PG, TH400) was optional.

"B" in group 2 is a floor mounted 3-speed. Since the 3-speed came up through the floor in a different location than a 4-speed, it was so coded on the Fisher Body side.

Of the five U.S. plants building 1967 Chevelles, Atlanta, Framingham, and Kansas City put these options on the Body Plate; Fremont and Baltimore did not. Also, Fremont and Baltimore did not use the -A or -B to designate bench or bucket seats. Bucket and bench seats had different trim numbers anyway for the same material such as 763 was for Black Imitation Leather buckets and 761 was for Black Imitation Leather bench. The addition of the -A for bench or -B for buckets was redundant but Atlanta, Framingham, and KC did this anyway. A 763 trim code for Baltimore was the same as a 763-B trim code for KC...both black bucket seats.
