Hello all,

Though I've been a Chevelle owner for several years, I finally just now joined the forums. I come to you for some opinions on what this car may be worth. It's a true '68 SS 396 Convertible, non original motor (small block), black on black color code, automatic, 12 bolt open rear-not sure if original or not, manual top, manual brakes, power steering, bucket seats -interior is complete and not in horrible shape, but does need redone. The car is all there, but the body needs complete restoration. The frame is good, floor is patchable but should be replaced entirely- same goes for the trunk. Fenders, doors, 1/4's wheelhouses are shot. Top frame needs some work, but not horrible. Has some spare parts like good grille, o.k. doors, header panel, and some trim. Car does run/move. Wish I had some pics to post but I don't. His bottom line is in the low to mid 9k range. Is it worth it? Thanks in advance for the help.

To me, it sounds like he asking too much. I love convertibles, especially a year where the vin will ID the SS,,,but sounds like there would need to be much more invested than it would be worth.

So it's a true 138 vin car?

If you can do the welding/bodywork it might be a decent deal. If you have to farm out everything you'll have a ton invested....

What it worth? What ever someone is willing to pay. I bought one in this condition about a year ago. More than likely, you will find more rust, I know I did! My car was a number matching Black on Black 138 car. I paid $8000, which I thought was a good deal at the time. You will have to put another 20K in it to make a driver. There are a lot a great deals out there now. If you are selling take 8K to 9K and smile all the way to the bank, if you are buying, I would pass. Additionally, it you are restoring or just love to talk about cars. This is a great forum

Thanks guys. It doesn't sound like it's worth it for the price- oh well. I really wasn't looking for another project anyways, just stumbled across it and thought it was interesting. Thanks for the help!!
