Ongoing problem with my 97 Tahoe Vortec,won't start when it's damp.Been fighting this forever.All new Delco ignition stuff,wires,cap,coil.When cranking won't fire,but when you release the key to the run position the engine chugs 2 or 3 revolutions real slow,like a clunk......... clunk.......... clunk.Weather drys out car will start,help. Thanks

Its the cap and rotor. Went through it also.

Put a new GM one on today,no differance,wouldn't start.

Doug,
The Vortec engines are known for problems with the Crankshaft Position Sensor. A lot of times they cause a kickback when starting, but will also cause a "no start" condition. You might want to check the connector to it, or if you want to take a chance, just replace it.

It bolts upward into the front cover from the lower passenger side. One bolt I believe. 97 tahoe 5.7 is crank pos sensor GM # 12596851 LIST= $103 connector is #88986451 LIST= $39
