I was wondering if somebody could help me out with a little problem I experienced the last time I had the Chevelle out. I installed an Alumitech radiator/dual electric fan set-up over the winter as well as a new high-flow 180 or 185 t-stat. I also put in a new cam and broke it in, and everything worked properly. I took it for the first drive of the season the other day and everything went well. I then decided to cruise over to my friends house to hang out (about 25 min away) and everything worked well on the way there…temp didn’t go over 190. When I went to go back home a 4+ hours later, I started the car and the fans kicked on right away, which I thought was weird. I started driving and the fans stayed on the entire way home, but he mechanical temp gauge in the car didn’t read anything over 135-140 the whole way home…? Both the mechanical temp gauge and the electric fan coolant sensor are screwed into the intake manifold near the t-stat.
Anybody have any ideas on what is happening here? Bad t-stat? Air in the system? If so, how do you get it out? When I originally filled the radiator, I filled it up almost all the way, ran the car to operating temp with the cap off and then filled up the rest of the way and put the cap on. I’d like to figure this out before I drive much further. Any help would be appreciated.
