I bought some Cragar SS wheels that fit 4.5, 4.75 and 5. The bolt holes are oval.
Do I need a special washer, lug or some type of insert to install these wheels?
I bolted them up and they seem fine, but my father in-law insists they make something to go in the hole it keep the wheel from moving.

yes you need the washers with the hole in the center. they sell offset ones, and ones with the holes in the center.

i put on crager ss wheels last year on my chevelle, YEP there is a special lug nut to go with them,it takes up the slack in the different wheel spacings. i was supplied with the wrong set and the wheels started to rattle and come loose in the space of 100 yards. your ordinary wheel nuts are no use with the crager wheels.. i also found when fitting the wheel to have the car jacked off the ground, and rotate the wheel and make SURE each nut fits properly..

Where did you buy them? The normal parts stores don't have a clue when I ask them.

Have you tried a tire store that sells Cragar wheels? Summit would also probably have what you need.

The normal parts stores don't have a clue when I ask them. i aint much use to you here , i bought them in england , but any store that sells cragers will know straight away what you are looking for.if you use ordinary nuts the wheel will run off center and the stud holes WILL get damaged by the existing wheel studs.

Terry, you just need common lug nuts and washers for mag wheels. They have the long shank that goes through the mag. The extra space in the slots is normal and the wheels won't fall off as long as you check them once in a while to make sure they are tight. Lug nuts for steel wheels won't work.

Two issues..

First off do the wheels have machined recessed holes for oval washers? If so you install an oval washer in the recessed hole, there are two styles, one with an offset hole and one with a centered hole. Offset hole for 4 1/2" and 5" patterns, centered hole for 4 3/4" pattern.

If there is no machined recessed hole and just the oval hole for a lug nut then you just use long mag nuts with the correct washers.

Either style wheel will use the long mag lug nuts with special round washers, the washers have a bevel to them and are clearly stamped "wheel side" so you put them on correctly. They flatten out when the lug is tightened and keep the lugs tight.

No there is no recessed hole for an oval washer, just the oval hole for the different wheel stud sizes.
I looked on summit and I couldn't tell a difference between the Cragar lug nuts and the ones I have, which are the shank style with normal center holed washers.

You should be good to go. This is the same wheel I have on my Chevelle.
