Does the heater water core sit on anything when placed into heater box? or does it go straight onto metal. I have new core to firewall seal but worried about metal to metal rubbing in heater box if it does have something between the two can someone describe it as i will have to make one up from rubber or something else. Have not seen anything in parts catalogues i have here that shows it. Thanks

The core attaches to the heater box using 4 screws. The core is thinner than the box, thus the only seal needing replacing is the heater box to firewall seal. If you plan to do a heater core change I definitely recommend buying the seal kit which is right at 20 bucks from OPGI. Without the seal kit you'll be using a lot of sticky tape to seal all of the areas.

The heater box attaches to the firewall from inside the car. It has 5 studs that go all the way through to the engine compartment and through the fan blower box assembly under the hood. Remove the nuts from these studs and the entire box will pull out inside the car. The heater core is attached to the inside of the box with a bracket on each side held on with 2 screws each. There's not a gasket for the core to box assembly (only the one you mentioned that goes on the 2 lines coming out), but you'll need a new gasket for the heater box to firewall when you put it back in.

Right thought that's how it went together mine had no brackets inside to hold core i will have to think of way to secure it as for gasket to firewall do you mean the internal dash mat insulation? as i have a new one of those on engine bay side i was going to seal it with some caulking type rope sealer its similar to what held door plastic [behind door trim on] Thanks for your help Davis I'll go think about the brackets

The new dash mat insulation should be all you need for the gasket. Mine was in poor shape so I cut out the spot where the heater box bolts up and used 2-sided weatherstrip tape on the edge of the box. It worked real good and you can't tell the difference by looking at it. As far as brackets, you should be able to bend some lightweight flat iron around each end of the core and drill the ends where they match up to the holes on the box and suck them down with 4 small sheet metal screws.
