brans72 May 3rd, 09, 9:03 PM I got mine for $19.99 and was best air tool bought in couple years!!!! This thing is not super fast like some might think but work it right with right compressor and does a GREAT JOB. I would recomm to anyone who has to remove undercoat. Brandon
claytonisbob May 3rd, 09, 11:57 PM I thought you were going to say that you found undercoating for $27 :p
Interesting tool This is the air scraper (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?itemnumber=95826&Submit=Go)
I guess it's like a air chisel but with different blades? I can't help myself sometimes with harbor freight air tools. They're cheap, and for the rare occations I need them they work fine. Plus playing with a new air tool is always fun, and for $20 I am never let down ;)
purochamp May 4th, 09, 12:02 AM If you use a a small torch ( bunson burner), heat the undercoating up and it scrapes off in a flash. Works great on wheel weels. I use a plumbers torch. Heat, scrape, the then wire brush it

brans72 May 4th, 09, 12:47 PM I did 2 rear inner fenders in less then 40 mins with this and they where caked with undercoat! Oh you also don't have the bad smell like you do with a torch!!!!!!
grandsport May 4th, 09, 12:50 PM Nice to read a thread where everyone is happy!!!:thumbsup:
Chevelle_Nut May 4th, 09, 3:37 PM I'm not! I spent 3 weeks on my back with a torch, mineral spirits and a scraper and now there is something easier! http://chatham-county-nc.com/bulletinboard/Smileys/default/headbang.gif

There's one in every crowd.:sad::D
BlueSS454 May 4th, 09, 6:04 PM If you put some laquer thinner in a spray mist bottle and apply it to the undercoating, it will become soft and easier to scrape off.. It might melt the plastic bottle too.
brans72 May 4th, 09, 8:32 PM You can borrow mine on the next car, you need a wagon in the collection John.
1969 El Camino Dan May 5th, 09, 6:11 AM Using a flame around the car for this job could lead to disaster.
Get youself an electric heat gun, you'll be much safer.
Dan
Chevelle_Nut May 5th, 09, 11:41 AM I tried the heat gun, a torch worked much better. Besides, my 10 year old had the heat gun and his own scraper :D .
I remember the statement from another post and said it to myself during the whole process "This is going to take a while and it is going to be sucky."
Rich-L79 May 5th, 09, 11:44 AM You guys all make this job WAY too difficult. My small angle grinder with a wire brush wheel took all the undercoating and paint off without a lot of fuss. You probably want to wear a dust mask but the job certainly goes a lot quicker this way and is a lot more safe (no heat or flames).
