I just picked up a 70SS 396, factory ac, with a tilt column, and positraction..seems to be a good survivor so far.
Any help that I can get decoding my trim tag would be greatly appreciated. Here is the data:
70 - 13680 BL 02658
755 75 A
(1or7?)3A 566781 062(0or8?)245

70 ~ model year
13680 ~ Chevrolet (1), Malibu, Custom El Camino, Concours, 8-cylinder (36), 2-door sedan pickup (80)
BL ~ Van Nuys/Los Angeles, CA
02658 ~ Fisher Body unit number
755 ~ Black Coated Fabric (bench seat)
75 A ~ Cranberry Red, Black vinyl top
1 or 7 ~ if it's obscured by the rivet, it's probably a zero (0)
3A ~ Month, 1st week - the "1" or "7" can't be part of this body date code.
566781 062(0or8?)245 ~ are data processing codes also found in block 24 of the build sheet. Of no significance unless you find a build sheet and then it will verify the sheet is for this car.
FWIW, only the build sheet, a big block stamped with a VIN derivative (ie, 10Lnnnnnn) where 'nnnnnn' match the last six digits of the VIN, or the POP for the car will confirm it's a true SS.

Thank you very much for the response on the numbers! I will have to get a better look at the tag to verify (going off of a slanted photo to post originally). This car is totally complete with one exception..it is missing the original motor (met the guy that took it out though..grrr!!) What I would like to do is locate the build sheet. On old Camaros, for example, I know they were either above the fuel tank or behind the back seat. Where would I start my search on this thing? Thanks

Found my build sheet in under the rear bench, driver side. Found another under passanger front seat behind the seat back. It could also be found in behind the door panels, up in above the gloove box, under carpet, just to name a few. Good luck on that build sheet
