OK it's that time of year to get the A/C questions started so here goes. Over the winter i I added ester oil, changed o-rings,dryer,exp.valve,pulled a good vacuum filled with 60oz 134. and i have no cold air what's up with that:confused: this is on a 65 elky with factory air.i have an electric fan, pinched the heater hose, any help would be great.

is the large return line coming out of the evaporator housing getting cold? If so it might have a problem with the air handling doors under the dash. If the compressor is running and the return line is not getting cold something is way wrong somewhere, freon not circulating.

if the compressor is running and the return line isn't getting cold try rapping on the TXV with a hammer or something. might be stuck. Do you have gauges?

PUt some guages on it. My guess, too much R134a.

Did it work prior to this? If so did it have 134A in it?
Original POA valve? That is where I would look. Seems in a lot of cases the original POA valve doesn't work right with 134A. Change it over to a newer type that recycles, Also when you open the system to do this replace the heater control valve and the Accumulator/Drier. Something about the higher pressure of the 134a that makes some POA valves not work.
This is why I kept my 72 R12 when I redid it last summer. And it is sooooo cold you will get icicles on your mustache (if you have one)

It never did work like it should a small cab on an elky should frost the windows. Over the winter I changed the dryer, exp. valve added new oil and 134 so something isn't right. I have done what I know to do, so I'm going to have him check it out. Also I can get r12 for a very good price and I may change back later after i find the problem.

OK I got the 65 elky back from the mech. today. goodnews/ bad news.the a/c is cooling as it should, but i can't get the cold air into the cab. As if something is not opening, i tried removing the heater box outside on the firewall or should i be working on the inside? Can someone shed some lite on this? Thanks

I'm not familiar with the airflow in that particular system, but "many or most" US automotive systems pull all of the intake air through the evaporator regardless of the temp setting. If that is the case with your Elky, here's a couple suggestions:
1. 45 years of dust, dirt, leaves, rodent nests... impacted in the outside surface of the evaporator. This is more common than you might think.

2. Blower motor spinning in the wrong direction. Very common with replacement parts.

3. Blower motor squirrel cage damaged and not turning with the motor.

4. Evaporator iced over. You would notice some good initial cooling, though.

Sadly, I think you have to pull the inner fender to look inside the evaporator case.
