: verifying ss from cowl tag
rjhallandson Nov 19th, 04, 7:04 PM is there any way of telling wether or not this chevelle is a true ss or if its a malibu or do i have to have the build sheet? i have the cowl numbers and thats the only thing i have to go by, it has many ss emblams, dash, guages, hood, etc, but i need to know if its a clone or not before i buy the car, thanks for anybody that can help.
jfkheat Nov 19th, 04, 7:37 PM What year is the car? 64 to 68 you can tell from the cowl tag. After that you need some type of documentation. Post the cowl info here and someone will decode if for you.

ACES-70 Nov 19th, 04, 8:30 PM Looks like there both 70 cars,, ones built in Baltimore,,, the other IF your numbers are correct was built in Arlington which mite or mite not be correct,,, but either way if its a 70 car your trying to determin whether its an SS car or not,,, with out documentation, there is no way to prove it,,,
rjhallandson Nov 19th, 04, 8:44 PM thank you, is there anyway of telling what motor these 2 cars should have had in it, thanks again.
jfkheat Nov 19th, 04, 8:53 PM The only way to tell is with a built sheet or other documentation.

b1760b1BDY WHICH IS The "b1760b1BDY" is Baltimore (B) and the Fisher Body unit number (1760b1) but the 'b' should be a number, maybe a second '6'?...BDY is simply body which tells you nothing in particular UNLESS you find the build sheet for the car then that number will be in block 24 verifying it's the right build sheet.
Rich-L79 Nov 23rd, 04, 9:20 AM Go here for some help on identifying a true '70 SS car. Only documentation will PROVE it to be an SS though other clues are there that may help in the absence of paperwork:
