cheveezies Apr 27th, 09, 4:17 PM :) i have a new steel clutch pack for a posi , can't seem to find any info on wether they can be used on a 2- series , 3 , or 4 . or is there a difference ? . g.m 00612 . 1#12524505 . also - GR. 5.511 . any info back appreciated .
Mike Apr 27th, 09, 4:40 PM Fits 64-84 Eaton -shows non series specific.
tlowe Apr 27th, 09, 4:59 PM tommy,
do the clutch's have grooves cut into them to make them look like flower pedals? if so do not use them! every single posi i have pulled apart that had that kind was , one or more of them was broke. they can end up in the gears to cause major destruction. if that is the kind, bad deal. sell them on the bay. i can supply the correct kind. tom
cheveezies Apr 27th, 09, 5:03 PM thank's mike . by the sound of it , every disc clutch pack is different for - 2, 3, & 4 series posi carriers i assume ? .
Mike Apr 27th, 09, 5:10 PM No Tommy ,one kit fits all -that's what I meant by "non series specific".
big gear head Apr 27th, 09, 7:50 PM All of the internal parts from the 2,3 and 4 series Eaton Posi are exactly the same. The ONLY difference is in the location of the ring gear flange on the case.
cheveezies Apr 27th, 09, 9:02 PM thank's ; mike , tom , & freddie . mike ; they do have the look of flower pedals . i was going to sell them with this 2- series carrier i have . but , wanted to know if they would fit 2 , 3 , or 4 series . now i know - thanks . i was also going to keep them for future posi's , but after your info tom - thanks , i think they will be going for a ride . not shure if i want to sell them to another guy & give him headaches though ? . they came with the 2- series when i bought the car . not liking either of the two now ! . freddie ; if your reading , you can have the 2- series for 75.00 , u.s funds , plus shipping . if interested , e- mail me with your address & i'll get a shipping cost for you . tommy
cheveezies Apr 27th, 09, 9:10 PM ooops ! just caught it , sorry for the name mixup .
cheveezies Apr 27th, 09, 9:17 PM question ; tom or others . the disc's that are non flower pedals , the ones with just the tabs , they should be able to use & stand up to a little pounding , yes ? . but then i would imagine you can only buy them as a full kit anyhoo .
tlowe Apr 27th, 09, 9:48 PM yes, the ones with just the tabs will take lots of abuse. the do come in kits. i do have plenty of singles for those that need them. or any other eaton posi part for that matter. tom
big gear head Apr 27th, 09, 10:31 PM The weaker discs will probably be fine in the 2 series. Anyone who uses it will probably not be too hard on it. 2 series gears are not considered performance gears, unless you want to run 200 MPH on the salt. :D
Brian_d Apr 28th, 09, 5:20 PM are the cluches/discs the same for a 10 bolt & 12 bolt?
big gear head Apr 28th, 09, 5:55 PM Yes.
lrdvdr41 Apr 29th, 09, 11:14 AM How much is a pack to rbuild the posi unit? Any good references on how to do it?
big gear head Apr 29th, 09, 12:42 PM The clutch set is $120 plus shipping.
Brian_d Apr 29th, 09, 3:26 PM How do you tell if factory used clutches are still good? Is there a minimum thickness?
big gear head Apr 29th, 09, 7:06 PM The clutches are dark gray when they are new. The center of the disc will wear first. If there is still a dark gray band around the outside and inside edges of the discs then they still have some wear in them. If they are shiny all over then they need to be replaced.
