I'm looking at a 64SS Chevelle. The information that I have is as follows:
VIN: 45837K122103
TRIM TAG: N26
5837 KC 4468
741 912
W 2M
ENGINE PAD: F1120JD
BLOCK DATE: K63 (looks like K163, may no 1 though)
REAR END: ZA 11 20

The engine pad date, block date and rear end date all seem to go together. Whats up with the N26? What does it mean?

I'm also looking for approximate value of this car. I do not have any pictures but a good discription.
The car is a second owner car, he's had it since 76. Car is has no power or a/c. Seems to have original drive train, he says its all original. Interior is redone (head liner, seat covers, door panels and carpet, carpet needs redone again) some time ago but decent. Car runs and drives good. Rust is minimal, needs a trunk pan (rusted in center only but still needs replaced)but all floors are good. The only body rust that I can find is bondo behind the rear wheels. Bumpers are just good. Most trim is below average. Paint job is poor. Someone removed all rocker panels and upper body side moulding and welded holes up then bondoed over the welded holes, they did a poor job and you can see where every repair is. Looking at the body panels from the inside all looks very good and see no reason for major repairs. All in all its a pretty solid and original car with no major rust but needs alot of little stuff to be complete along with a complete body makeover.
Just looking for a ballpark value. Any help is appriciated.
Thanks Chris

The N26 should be a month (2-digit) and week (A..E) code if it's the at the top left of the body plate. Never seen anything like that code on a 64 Kansas body plate and I have photos of 6 from 64 at KC.

Value from a narrative is difficult at best - sometimes harder with photos. Maybe $2K to $4K tops based on others currently for sale? If you're *into* 64s, maybe a bit more.

Its definitely an N26 in the top left of the trim tag. Can anyone decode this date.

I know plants sometimes changed the way they displayed the date but usually it involved adding or deleting a leading zero. Could it be that since this is relatively early in the model year run (as noted by the November engine date) that it's N(ovember) 26? Maybe when they got to January they figured out they were in for a problem come June and July :D

Any chance of posting or sending me a clear photo?

Yes, I'll get a photo tomorrow. I brought my camara today but with the Library opening today I decided to stay away from that area. The N for November seems to be the most likely senario and its a week later than the engine and rearend stamped date. Wouldn't you think this would have come up before though?

Chris.....somethings been puzzeling me since we looked at this car. The JD engine code indicates a 2bl....but it's not. Didn't the heads have the upside down "v" casting on them. Is that the correct head for the 2 bl engine. I can't remember. Also, it was dual exhaust...right?

And yes....it was for sure N26, Dale. Would make a nice addition to your trim tag archive. It also had all the verbage on the bottom about the acrylic lacquer paint.

Danny, I made a list of all of the things that I had questions on concerning the car and asked him. One question was concerning the where abouts of the original carb and intake and he said none of that was kept but was a 2 barrell.

Head number 3795896 has this same marking and was used "extensively in the 64 and 65 2 barrell engine applications, also in the 62 to 64 chevy II service conversion applications". It is shown to be used on 283 and 327 engines in 64 through 250 hp versions.

Searched extensively on TC for a post about it and never found one so I ask. Only one or two folks knew/suspected it was for Euclid, OH. But, nobody ever ask before. Maybe there's a few out there that the owner just assumes it'd be O for October, N for November, etc and never raised the question 'till now. Who knows? Still be cool to have. smile.gif
