OK, I'm confused. Hope somebody can help. My 1970 Chevelle SS has the original, factory installed, shoulder harness belts located just above the side glass on the roof edge. According to the build sheets, the shoulder harness belts are listed as option code A85. In looking up this option in the "Red Book" it says that only 122 Chevelles were sold with this option for the 1970 model year. Cool! But, here's my question. Other supposedly knowledgable people I've spoken to say all Chevelle coupes in 1970 came with the shoulder belts. Other Chevelles I've personally looked at have the belt retaining clips above the door, but I haven't seen any with the actual belts.

What's the story?

I think that may be a mis print, i own 3 70 chevelles and they all have the shoulder harness.

I think that you will find that shoulder belts became standard equipment in '69. Somewhere about this time, rear seat belts became an option as well. The holes are in the parcel shelf.

I would agree that by 1970 front shoulder belts were standard,as proof by the retaining clips,owners/previous owners must have removed the belts/straps,and as for the A85 option that is for the deluxe shoulder harness meaning the buckle is brushed aluminum, not the black plactic ones,as most velles had.

Thanks to all for the information. Looks like Tommyd454 is right about the "deluxe" shoulder harness. The buckles in my car are definitely brushed aluminum. Mystery solved.
