10L150875 - Chevrolet, 1970, Van Nuys (Los Angeles), last 6 digits of VIN of car engine came in.

3960733 ~ part number
S ~ mfg by A.O. Smith
275 ~ October 2 (I think - 275 day of the year it was manufactured)
11 18 S 2 XU ~ suppose to decode to day/month/year/shift but the "S" doesn't seem to fit...XU is the code for the build sheet assembly of a Sport Coupe.

Not uncommon for body plate and VIN plate to have different letters for assembly plants. Both L and BL are for Van Nuys/Los Angeles. VIN plates always have a single letter while body plates can have up to three characters such as B and BAL for Baltimore, G and FRA for Framingham, or Z and BF for Fremont.

I also have another question, How can I tell if my 1970 model car was built in 1969 or 1970? Did they still have the 1970 model in December of 1970?

I cannot find the dist but the date is either 67 or 77 Aug 05.
On the heads I think that 1 is an I. I = Sept, 265th day J = Oct 107th day. I think this correct. I cannot find the other things.

How can I tell if my 1970 model car was built in 1969 or 1970?
By the VIN sequence, the first car was 100001 at all plants and LA built aprrox, 15,000 per month.

Did they still have the 1970 model in December of 1970? No, production ended in July of 1970

Typical production year for 1970 was early Aug 69 to late July 70

Ok, I just sandblasted my P/S gear box and found more numbers.
These are what I found.
5691676-9
310 (this is found close to the first numbers)

516--9 (found on top cover, little square pad, these were stamped)
