Ok, I know this is probably a dead horse in this subject, but I tried a few searches with only bits of the info I needed. I was wondering if someone has the exact vehicle (year - specifics to ask for) that the correct "vette style" master cylinder came on. I would like to buy from a parts counter somewhere so I can get it locally and with a warranty. I bought one on line a year ago and it already leaks from the rear seal - where the piston is pushed. I would like to find a POWER MASTER for FOUR WHEEL DISC BRAKES - presumably with the 1 1/8" bore. Asking the parts guys/gals locally would be like a monkey... - well nevermind. I was just hoping this thing exists from a regular parts counter and the part number or exact specifics to ask for at the counter would be wonderful!! Thanks Dan

Assuming you need the "deep pushrod hole" master, the most commonly used is the one for 68-76 Corvette with power brakes. Just ask for a 70 vette with power brakes.

Should be:
DORMAN M89160
A-1 Cardone 101423
Cardone Select 131423
Raybestos MC39018
AC Delco 18M72

I feel your pain. I just bought a NOS 68-74 Vette M/C from NAPA Auto parts and it leaked 2 days later from the rear ruining some paint. Now I'm installing a 69 Camaro dual M/C from Ground Up here in CT. It's going on my 65 Chevy II with Disc/Drums and a 9 " Power booster. Prior to this I bought a new Proportioning Valve and that also weeped brake fluid a week later-Had to buy another brand. We are no doubt getting bad parts from China or some where and paying the price. You can call Ground Up our sponsor on this site and buy a M/C from them. They have them in stock and ready to ship. They got a bad rap recently for sending wrong parts to guys but overall they have treated me fairly. Remember your Team Chevelle 10% IF your a member..!! because they WILL NOT ask..

Good luck
Bob in CT

Thanks, that info is exactly what I was looking for! As long as it looks like the one ine the picture - we are in good shape. I like the fact I can run to the parts counter and return if I have a problem. I think the China parts are almost unavoidable. I just hate contributing to building the Chinese Navy... Thanks Dan

OK, I bought the deep - hole style master, and discovered I need a shallow hole style master. I have an after market booster - with a short push-rod. I was told the deep hole style is for manual brakes, and the shallow for power. I think I can get a pin from CPP, is this the only nod I need to make this work? OR is there a shallow hole factory part available...

for the last few years, getting master cylinders that don't leak at the back has been kind of a crap shoot- it generally takes at least two trips to the store to get a good one, so buy one from a store that is close.

That pushrod change alone should work OR you can try a newer vette master cylinder. 77-82 with power brakes should be almost identical setup, but with a "shallow" hole master cylinder.

The whole "shallow hole" "deep hole" crap is a bit confusing. Most (newer) cars with power brakes use the shallow hole job, and most cars with manual brakes use the deep-hole job, but the early 70's/late 60's are a bit of a mish-mash. 2nd gen camaro with manual brakes used the shallow hole master, 1st gen camaro with power brakes used the deep hole master. Bleh.
