I have an am/fm radio out of a 68-72 oldsmobile and wanted to test but dont know how? I would think that chevy radios are similar. The plug in the back has 3 connections. 2 connections have wires comming out and on the 3rd connection it looks to have a plug that plugs into it. Any help would be great. If needed a picture tell me how to place pictures on Chevelle Tech. Thanks John

Hi John, assuming its the same as a Chevy radio, the 2 wires you have would be green and black, these are the speaker wires. The connection left would be the power wire(12v+) from the dash harness. Also the ground would be the case of the radio. You need a loose wire to act as an antenna that goes to the center pin. Don S

ATTENTION:
DO NOT turn the radio on with-out a speaker load, :yes:If the radio is turned on and the gain it up, You can fry it. I think you will fry the DS-108 drive transistor???? Did you ever notice the " Thump " when you turn on a old solid state radio.
How do I know this? In 1971 I took the AM/FM out of my 70 SS 454 El Camino and stuck in a 70- 71 Monte AM/FM-Stereo with the orange light and yea going make speaker boxes and all that stuff...... Anyhow I TRASHED the radio I did not have speakers attached... No speaker load it goes " Poof ".

Robin,
Thanks for the tip on speaker load.
I have a '65 AM to test, and glad I did some research up front.
Great site, great people!

You would want to hook up speakers anyways if you want to make it work. Just because it may actually power up doesnt necessarily mean you will get sound from the speakers.

By the way, mine works, after I adjusted the antenna trim a wee bit.
