1970 Chevelle SS Conv. Ignition was converted to HEI, Internal Voltage Regulator.

Flashed my headlights three times to warn other motorists of speed trap ahead, and BAM lost power to everything. No Brake Lights, Lights, No Start/Crank. Motor sputtered and popped when I lost power, I put her in Neutral and revved up the motor a few times, but, when I put her back in gear she died completely. Im looking at my wiring diagrahms now... Anyone ever had a similar problem?

Oh and power top works, electric fan works, and I have power at the starter.

Sounds like you lost the main +12V body/car feed somewhere along the line.

Do you have +12V at any of your fuseblock terminals... accessory "BAT" or IGN terminals?

Start checking from the 10ga. feeder off the + battery cable, across the rad. support to the horn relay/voltage reg. area, then into the car/fuseblock.

(I'm guessing that the power top has it's own separate +12V feeder due to the high current demands of the motor.... same with the fans...)

I don't recall the specifics but when I went HEI a loooong time ago I know there was one less wire needed to the starter. Did you eliminate this wire in your conversion?

check fuse links from starter or junction block

check fuse links from starter or junction block

No fusible links at starter in 70. Fusible link from battery to junction block on core support. Fusible link from horn relay buss to firewall bulkhead connector.

Must be a short somewhere, I pulled the harness out of the rubber holder behind the distributor and peeled the tape off to see what was buried in there. I found a previously burnt two prong connecter. I checked all my connections and checked for power at the core support junction. It had power. I turned the key into the forward position to check the power at the solenoid and when I did that my radar detector came on! I hit the key and she started... Wierd... Been driving her ever since... See how long this lasts hehee. Thanks for the advice fellas!
