what is the best way to tell if a SS is the real thing? 1969 ss convertable.

With original documentation...build sheet...POP... window sticker... etc. Without that identifying a 69 is dificult because SS became an option that year and not a model. Use this link as a reference http://www.chevelles.com/shop/ss_ident.html

Yeah, what Robert said. When you say *real* I assume you mean it was born that way? Without paperwork, it's impossible to tell a real one from a home made SS if done right...everything is available to make one if you wish. Without paperwork, you can't tell if it's factory or home made.

What about Daytona Yellow or Monaco Orange Chevelles in '69? Weren't these SS exclusives? That would be one way to tell for sure.

OR, the original engine with the VIN stamped on it.

ASSUMING no one has replaced the body tag with a color code change or re-stamped the engine.
