Can someone tell me roughly the dates when the L78 was started and ended. Thanks in advance. Mike

December 8th-ish 1969 was about the last production L78. I can't tell you what year it started.

Wasn't 66 the first year for the L78? 1970 model would have been the last year, or rather Dec 69 as Dave stated.

My question was for the 1970 model year. Thanks

For 1970, the L78 was available right from the start of production. Option was cancelled in a November memo to the Zones, and production ended with the start of LS6 production, December 8-9th, 1969.

Are we absolutely sure that the LS6 killed the L78 and why would that be? Say I had previous L78 Cars and wanted to order another one in 1970 (mid year) because I knew how great they ran, even know I could buy a motor with 52 more CI.. They still made the 350 horse 402 during the whole model year right? Just trying to educate myself here.. My car is an early October 69 car that had an early September Block stamp.
