I recently removed my seat covers installed new seat buns with bolsters and reinstalled my covers. I discovered that when the seat cover was slipped over the seat bun it was difficult to get to the seam bolsters. I came up with this method which seemed to make the process very easy.
1. First I slipped the seat cover on and placed it near the finish position.
2. Then I marked the end of the seam bolster onto the seat bun with a magic marker and removed the seat cover.
3. I then figured out 4 evenly spaced positions where I wanted to tie the seam down and marked those location on the seat foam and the same locations on the cover bolster.
4. With an awl I pierced the cover bolster positions and the corresponding positions in the seat buns.
5. I then cut eight pieces of safety wire about 2 feet long and fed one each through each hole in the seat bolster. after all eight were in I twisted the first inch or so on each piece of safety wire to make them easier to feed through the seat buns.
6. I then fed all eight pieces through the seat buns and out through the bottom to the springs. This was very easy and only took about 5 minutes.I pulled the wire slack out through the bottom and afterwards slipped the seat cover into position again.
7. I flipped the seat over ,pulled all 8 pieces of wire hand tight, and cut each piece of safety wire to approx 3 inches long. The pieces of safety wire that I cut off were long enough to use on other parts of the cover where hog rings had previously been used.
8. I took my safety wire pliers and pulled each wire tight and twisted each one up around the closest spring available to each piece of safety wire.
Seams were finished quick and easy.
