Simple answer : Remove the steering wheel. Remove the steering wheel lock plate and remove all of the teeth from the lock plate that engages the pin that locks the steering wheel. Do NOT dispose of the lock place. It is needed to properly position annd tension the entire assembly. IE: Keep the hub of the lock plate.
Now you have the locking portion of the assembly neutralized. You still have to keep the ignition intact however I am betting that the pushbutton assembly that you are purchasing will include instructions as to modify the system to maintain proper ignition circuitry while not using the key.
Good luck!

All you need to do is dissassemble the column enough to remove the lock pin. Chevy trucks had the same type of column that didn't lock in 73 and 74 (no pin) because it wasn't mandated for trucks then.
