Friend of mine wanted to throw out an old 327 he had sitting in his garage for many years,I said let me check some numbers first.Block number is 3914678.Far as I can tell they were used for the Z-28 302s,327s and 350s in 1968.Head number is 3917291. What is a realistic price for him to sell this engine?

You need to look on the block for the engine codes.

Located on a machined pad in front of right hand cylinder head. There should be 1 or 2 distinct set of stamped in digits. These will tell you what it came from.

As for price, who can say. Engines can look good but be totally worthless. Its all what someone is willing to pay for it.

I can't find IHF, but here's the listings for HF:
1965 HF 327 h/p 300 4 Vette
1966 HF 327 Powerglide, A.I.R. 275 4 full size
1969 HF 350 Powerglide 275 2 A F X

I checked Mortec, and nasty z28, and both list the block number 3914678 as 68 only...

I am looking at a 70 ss chevelle that is supposed to be #s matching, but the seller says that the number is stamped upside down and it isn't centered, is this common.

As far as the IHF listed earlier, I have a 65 that is a F0421HD and the 1 is stamped with an I also. It seems common for the 1 to be stamped with an I.
