: where can I buy concours correct rolling chassis parts?
D1 Guy Apr 22nd, 09, 5:28 PM Hello, Im wanting to replace everything on my 66 chevelle frame and I want it to be correct. Who do you guys recommend going with? Is there a place where I can buy everything? I would also like to have power disc brakes up front, but I dont want to have to use adaptors. Any ideas? Thanks a lot in advance.
BlueSS454 Apr 22nd, 09, 6:14 PM The factory used Moog parts on the chassis. TRW are the same ones. The only thing you will need to do is have the upper ball joints riveted on as opposed to the bolts they give you with them. No one is going to know the difference as far as lower ball joints, bushings, tie rods, center link and other chassis parts are concerned since the all look the same. Just use good quality parts.
D1 Guy Apr 22nd, 09, 6:24 PM Who can I get to rivet those on the uppers? I called ground up restorations and they are working up a quote for me. They told me that they used moog, gm, and the right (wright??) stuff. He said that all of it was factory original stuff, but I might want to paint some of it a different shade. Would it be a good idea to just order everything from them? Thanks a lot in advance.
BlueSS454 Apr 22nd, 09, 8:16 PM Right Stuff detailing has all the brake and fuel lines as well as the clips to retain them. To be honest...you can get Moog parts at any auto parts store if you want to inspect what you are buying before paying for it. I ALWAYS get mecahnical parts locally.
chevelle66427 Apr 22nd, 09, 9:09 PM Tamraz on ebay or something that like on ebay has new uppers with the upper riveted in Bob
james a larson Apr 23rd, 09, 8:27 AM Google The Right Stuff and Inline Tube, 2 venders that handle a lot of the brake parts like lines, clips, etc along with correct sway bar end links. Google ANK, they handle a lot of bolts, nuts, clips, washers, etc. Ground up has correct shocks. Then you need correct control arm bushings and related parts. Detroit Eaton for springs. I have found www.oldmusclecars.com (http://www.oldmusclecars.com) to be real good. Also google Glenn Lever, lots of information about control arms, bushings, etc.
Tamarz probably has control arms that have different style bushings than you have on your 66. 3 different styles from 64 to 72 are interchangeable as long as you replace the bushings, etc; but are not correct.

RPOLS3 Apr 23rd, 09, 5:15 PM I bought a cheap "kit" that had all the bushings, tie rods, and ball joints in it from one of the national vendors mentioned in this thread and ended up buying (IE replacing) almost 1/2 of the kit (for more than I paid for the whole kit) because the made in China stuff that came in the kit was junk. Buy cheap, get cheap.
D1 Guy Apr 23rd, 09, 6:44 PM well what do you think about the gound up stuff? I spent 3500 with them today.....told them I was replacing everything on the rolling chassis. I then ordered the ball joint rivets from another source. They said that everything that they sold was as close to original as you can get.
D1 Guy Apr 23rd, 09, 6:45 PM I need 15" wheels now to get her rolling....but I cant find any steel wheels in a 15" that will work with my dog dish caps.....which is what my car came with originally and I want that original look. Thats why I went will all original suspension. Any ideas on where I can find that 15" steel wheel thatll work with my dog dish hub caps? It would be much appreciated. I also posted in the wheel/tire section.

You should check local salvage yards for 70's Chevy 15 x 6 station wagon wheels...i have found these before and they work great...also found some 15 x 7's...average cost should be about $30/wheel or less....the dog dish caps work great on these.

BlueSS454 Apr 24th, 09, 12:06 AM 81-88 GM B bodies also have 15 x 6 steel wheels with provisions for the caps if you want to go the cheap route. If you want new, Wheel Vintiques should have them. They had Mopar ones for the Cuda in a few different sizes.
D1 Guy Apr 24th, 09, 10:48 AM Ok thanks. Im looking and havent found them yet. I dont want to go the cheap route. I would like to find some perfect or new ones.
james a larson Apr 24th, 09, 11:29 AM 66's SS only came with a 14x6JK rim with a 1.00 offset or a 4 1/2" backspace. These original rims that need to be recondition are not cheap. Don't think they are available any place. Larges back space is 4 1/4" I think.
D1 Guy Apr 24th, 09, 11:48 AM Yes I know that, but I need 15"s that look correct because my disc brake kit requires 15" wheels. I dont need 14" originals....I need 15s that look original ;) Thanks for trying to help though.
SebJr Apr 25th, 09, 8:47 AM ....I need 15s that look original ;)
15's that look original on a 66 ??:noway: ;)
66 L78 ragtop Apr 25th, 09, 11:42 AM If you are building a correct appearing driver then 15s are fine if thats the only size your disc set up will allow.
If you are planning on building a car that will win shows in the stock/original class, I would go the 14x6 route...depends on your goals...either way, sounds like your car is going to be one nice mother
D1 Guy Apr 27th, 09, 11:20 AM yeah were building it to drive and to enjoy....were actually using a different rolling chassis than the original one because it is a matching numbers car. Were leaving the original rolling chassis together and in storage. Were going to build another frame so we can drive it........were planning on sending the original rolling chassis to then and now automotive. Thats the plan.
Please understand that I do know that the car didnt come with 15"s and I know that they wont be correct but I want it to look that way.
