Ok, I'm starting the new suspension on my 66 Chevelle SB 350. I know I need new coil's but would like to have the ride height just a touch taller in the back than the front. What Size/Type springs would work best for the front and rear. I dont what anything crazy like a 3-5 inch differance, just the look of a slightly higher back end. Also going with Bilsteens and new bushings all around. Thanks for any tips.

Matt when I replaced the springs in my El Camino I was very disappointed in the height of the car. IMO it sits to low in the front even though I installed the springs that were supposed to be correct for the engine size. It bottoms out at times when driving on the junk roads here in Pima County. Rather then go through the same thing again when it came time for the Nova front suspension rebuild I purchased a QA1 coil over kit. It wasn't very much more then the new springs and Bilstein shocks that were purchased for the El Camino but I can set the front end height where I want it, lock it down and have the alignment set. IMO that adjustability of ride height is worth the extra cost, plus the shocks have 12 settings to adjust them to your car and driving habits.
Trying to get the look you want with standard springs may take several remove and install procedures and possibly cutting off some of the coil. A lot of hassle to save a few bucks.

I am running a 350/400 combo and installed the big block springs from Advance. Now my car has plenty of front-end travel and the front sits about 1/2" lower than the rear. Perfect rake IMO.

Thanks soo much for the pointers I will do some Research on the QA1's and BB coils, I'm allso running a 350 with a Turbo 400, I had also heard that the Wagon coils in the rear with the standard in the front might work. Not sure but I have 15X7 in front and 15X8 in the back.

Are the rear springs for the wagon and the El Caminos the same springs? Did you change the springs all around or just the front? My El Camino has air shocks so I can adjust the rear height some with those (not too much, tho) but I want to replace those 45 year old springs. What shocks do you run on the front?

my springs are also the original right now. Thats what I'm looking to change out. Due to not driving the car too much and mostly just down to the local hang out. I was thinking of going with Trad. AC Delco shocks or Biltseens' all around and new bushings and Coil Springs. But I'm not sure what Springs to use. I was told that the diff between the SB and BB coils is just a little more rigid on the BB. So I was thinking of Going with SB coils in front and Wagon coils in back to get a little more lift in the rear. I also currently have Air shocks, but just Cant keep them filled for more than a few days.

I'm still running the factory springs in the rear. My front shocks are Monroe Sensatrac.

BB El Camino here

Objective: street. no strip.
Goals:
* not a G vehicle
* wanted a lowered vehicle
* no wallowing ride compared to OEM
* Budget approach for max bang and meeting aforementioned goals.

Coil Spring Specialities 800 pound/inch up front - used; ebay; $35 for both;
Black Magic Springs 175 pound/inch back; used; ebay $30 for both;

Afcos shocks all around - Summit

Very pleased with ride; not as harsh as you might expect with 800s up front (due to weight up front with blower).
