Anyone able to put together a complete VIN from the engine stamping? I got an LS5 back today that I removed from a 70 SS Chevelle I owned from 73-79. I would like to try to track down the car by the VIN and am wondering if it could be recreated from the engine #. The block is stamped 10K165298. I am sure it came from the Kansas plant as indicated by the K in the VIN #. It was a Malibu sport coupe with rpo Z15 option. Any insight into the probable complete number will be greatly appreciated!! smile.gif

That's easy... a Malibu Sport Coupe with a V8 started with 13637 followed by the 0K165298.
136370K165298
The VIN doesn't indicate the Z15 option. Good Luck finding your car. smile.gif

Soooo....you dropped the 1 at the beginning of the engine code?? That makes more sense. I wasn't coming up with a probable number with that in there. Now I just need to find the time to go back to my DMV to see if it is still registered. They don't keep records beyond 7 years, so I wasn't able to trace it from the time I owned it. This could get very interesting!!! graemlins/hurray.gif

The 1 signifies the Chevrolet Division of GM as in the first digit of the VIN. 2 would be Pontiac and so on.
The VIN derivative shows the Division, model year, final assembly plant and the serial number of vehicle (last 6 sequential digits)
