I need some help from someone please. I thought I saw something a while ago on here...but cannot find it anymore.
On my rear window channel, the "upper" portion is all rotted away from years of leaking. I have never seen a repair panel for this area - if there is one could someone let me know? I am unsure how to fix this - but I think the channel needs to be cut out and completely replaced. I am replacing quarters, the tail panel, and the window to trunk panel, so the he rest of the trunk and lower window area will be OK. My package tray on the drivers side is also rotted from the leaking through the years...does anyone make this corner piece only? I see the entire piece including the rear seat divider to trunk for sale - but I only need the corner area. Any suggestions, ideas, or info will help me. What started as a small project has just about overwhelmed me - any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Joe

I have the same area (above rear window) rusted out on my 68, so I am interested in some input on this question as well. Im assuming you have a hard vinyl top car too?

When i done my 72, the bottom corners were gone. I just cut out the size peice i needed, put the proper radius on the window side and welded the lip on it and installed. Turned out fine. Just takes time.

Hi,
Basically you need to cut and weld in new material. If you can't do it find a buddy who can weld sheetmetal. I bought my prebent channels off of ebay. But if you can find someone with a shrinker/stretcher they are very simple to make.
My 69 was totally ravaged.

This is the pass side lower corner.
I ground away the rust until I found some good metal. And tacked the corner piece in.

Then I ground the edges flush with the surrounding metal and tacked some more.

Keep tacking and letting it cool and grind flush.

After a while you get very good at grinding.
A thin layer of bondo and almost new.

Ricks looks better than mine but I did the same thing... sort of. I did two pieces. I made a small corner piece and welded it in and then I did the straight piece up the side. I also made the entire bottom piece where the glass sits because the rest of my panel was ok. Just take your time and it will turn out fine.

I just went through this/ actually still going through it.... Anyway I have a thread already with some pictures of the repair I'm doing.
This is the thread of the rear window of the car just as I bought it. I removed the window and found what you see in the thread

This is the repair

I'm still working on the passenger side, progress has been a little slow. The Rot on the passenger side is nowhere as bad. The passenger side only went up to the first stud for the trim clips. After that's complete I'll install the new trunk to rear window panel. Actually I have seen a repro panel for the package tray. It's a little spendy, and looks like it'd be a pain to replace. But it is available depending on how bad yours is. I think it'd be easier to fabricate a filler and weld it in.
