: Crack in resistive wire

It seems that my 9v feed wire that goes to the ignition coil has some sort of a crack. Also the cloth isolation is damaged exposing the wire.

Can I cut the wire, reconnect it and apply new isolation???

You're probably better off getting a new one, GU, YearOne, etc. They are cut to length to provide the correct amount of resistance. If you only need to remove a very small piece it shouldn't make much difference on the resistance. As far as insulation, it generates heat so you can't wrap it with conventional electrical tape. That's why it is covered in in a special cloth type insulation that won't retain the heat and won't melt.

It's more that the insulation is cracked, the wire itself is exposed but undamaged. I think I'll just remove some of the insulation and wrap some heat resistive stuff around it. Should do the job?!

By the way, why does the wiring diagram say that this resistance wire is PPL (Purple??)??

Guys, I've looked at Ground Up, Year one but I cant find the wire. Any suggestions??
