Does anybody know what the 8 by the right side rivet (left side in the picture) below the date code and above the general (for general motors) means or stands for?

the angle on mine is not very good if you need to see better, it shows up real good on the 350k yenko L-88 car thats posted in the copo forum.

I've seen both machine stamped and hand stamped numbers on various years and plants tags and 3 of the 4 Baltimore tags I have for 69 have this number 8. Best guess so far is some plant tracking number or maybe some inspector or inspection station check.
