: How about a "DETAILING/CAR CARE" Forum?
Don_Lightfoot Apr 21st, 09, 1:41 PM Probably the last thing Al might want to hear is the possibility of another Forum ;)
Just wondering what other members feel about something like this. The Forum could be a reference for such things as washing, cleaning, polishing, detailing, waxing products, etc. For example, there are unlimited types of various waxing/polishing/glass/tire/wheel products available to us today and it would be nice to have a place to give or find feedback on some of these. It could be applicable for the "daily driver care" to the "ultimate concours preparation".
Examples - What you like or don't like. What worked for you or didn't work.
Just a thought.
grandsport Apr 21st, 09, 1:48 PM I like the idea because that's about the only thing I'm capable of doing on my car. :D
rocks66ss Apr 21st, 09, 2:33 PM I guess I actually detail my car quite often. I would be interested in what works for other folks.

sg5492 Apr 21st, 09, 5:53 PM Great idea!!
zeke67 Apr 21st, 09, 8:54 PM Lots of that type of discussion happening already, it would be nice to have it in one place. It might even spawn more discussion.
BillsCamino Apr 21st, 09, 9:00 PM Yeah...I like this.
Kinda of a "Wax on, wax off" forum. ;)
1969 El Camino Dan Apr 21st, 09, 11:10 PM I like it!
Kinda surpirsed there isn't one already.

gbswick Apr 22nd, 09, 12:18 AM Good idea, I'm also surprised there isn't one already. I would be very interested in what you guys/gals use on your beautiful cars.
Elviss 1971 Apr 22nd, 09, 6:17 AM Yes good idea !
72 Custom Elky Apr 22nd, 09, 9:30 AM Yes ! Good Idea Don, I too would like to see it .
FLASHED Apr 22nd, 09, 1:12 PM Another good idea I vote yes. Detailing a car is my least favorite thing to do but if there is a better way and better product I would try it.
sonk Apr 22nd, 09, 2:03 PM I think it would get used alot by our members. Here is a site i have looked at before for some good info http://autogeek.net/
Good idea I just need to have a car to polish... kind of hard to polish rust on the wagon :clonk:
kboorman Apr 22nd, 09, 2:44 PM I like the idea. I personally have no idea how to take care of a nice paint job and the number of products out there is staggering. I could use some advice on what products to use and how to use them. If we had one place to look for such info it would be kinda nice. I don't know if such a forum would be real heavily travelled but I'd be reading with interest for a while at least.
gmorris Apr 22nd, 09, 2:51 PM Yep, this is one of the first car forums I've been on that didn't have one. I still check in on some of my old forums just for the detailing sections.
Daytona Jeff Apr 22nd, 09, 3:11 PM I voted Good Idea.................Don Lightfoot Moderator :D
Thanks for volunteering Don

I would be happy to Jeff. It would be nice to receive some of those "big bucks" paid to moderators and also be able to slap some of you dudes around a bit :D :D
66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE Apr 22nd, 09, 5:32 PM I'd be your CO MOD Don, but I don't know much about detailing and that stuff :noway:
Beaux Apr 22nd, 09, 6:47 PM I dont see the need, personally. Because there are good sites out there that are dedicated to detailing completely. And since detailing and such crosses all lines of cars, bikes, trucks, etc...well....why not just stick with the paint and body forum for this?
People say they would use it but detailing posts and such are rare as is. And when they are posted - very little interest outside of the very basic - "what are you guys using"
Im betting that half the replies would be links to other sites "how to's" and detailing information on individuals sites anyway. So I think building another room just to house this is kind of a waste of space and time.

What he said....
If we are seriously lacking in that department, how about a detailing STICKY post at the top of the bodyshop/paint forum, then people can reply with their tips and links to other sites...

But, I really like the members' positive attitudes and encouraging spirit on this site. Some of the stuff you have to put up with on other sites keeps me away.

Bill Rose Apr 23rd, 09, 10:12 AM I think it's a great idea Don. Many of the folks on this site are into different types of Chevelles. Some like the hot rods, some like resto mods, etc.....and some even like my personal favorite, the dreaded trailer queens..... but the one thing they all have in common, is they all need detailing. There's so many different products out there, for cleaning, shining, buffing, engine detailing, tires, interiors, the list goes on. I think it would be way more productive than the never ending discussion of trailer queens verses drivers for example. Just my .02, but I'd contribute to a detailing thread, before I'd contribute to some other "been there, done that" threads.
Derek69SS Apr 23rd, 09, 11:44 AM I like the idea. :) ...not sure I'd use it much though.

You have a young one to mold into the ultimate detailing machine... someone needs to be able to get in there and clean up after a track day ;)
66 L78 ragtop Apr 23rd, 09, 1:25 PM I like the idea. I've read a couple of books on detailing...
There are new products on the market therefore new opinions.
Although I'm pretty comfortable with what I know on detail, survivor preservation,
rust removal etc. I find that there are people with great ideas to add
True, there are sites devoted to this topic, but I think that the guys on this site are probably more knowledgable and creative than the members at other sites and therefore I think its a good idea. Besides, when other sites hear about the innovative ideas coming from this site, they will hopefully increase the traffic to this site
Creating a new forum or a simple post it topic is up to the powers that be

Would tend to agree as the diehard detailers are going to visit sites that are dedicated to nothing but detailing........such as www.autopia.org .
I would make sure before you advance the idea further that you can differentiate between the already existing category of Restoration and the potential additional category of Detailing. I think they'll be a number of inquiries/subjects that could fit in either forum category or deal with subjects that are already listed on the website not necessarily in Forums........correct paint color for this and that, removing scratch in a dash lens, get the stain out of my convertible top, cleaning/dyeing seat belt straps, and many more.
If it boils down to detailing primarily representing lotions and potions then you're back to the fact that many other sites specialize in this.

We are already here, why go to another web site? I sure there are forums here that people don't go to. That's like the Pro Touring forum, lots of generic info there that you could get somewhere else also. Like the T56 swap for the skylark??? Not Chevelle related but here non the less.
You could also have a sub forum like in the cruiz-in section, Not a lot of traffic, 74 threads in one of them so....... maybe in the restoration forum could be a detailing forum.

What he said.
Bowtie-72 Apr 23rd, 09, 6:29 PM Since I don't ahve to worry about the exterior of my car yet, it will be nice to be able to find out the proper way.
lkt1954 Apr 24th, 09, 12:19 AM I also think this is a very good idea and here is my logic. So many sites have their own agenda (the product they sell). and all the products out there are the best available
(just read their press). It would be nice to have third party input on various products and techniques before you go invest a fortune in something that turns out to be less than advertised.
I am sure that if I had detailed as many cars as someone like Chip Foose, I wouldn't be interested, but I am still learning and the good advise here is priceless.
